It is a tradition in some parts of China to cut the hair of a newborn baby once it has reached one month old. In China, hundreds of thousands of newborn babies every year cannot live this tradition because they do not survive the 1st month of their lives. Many of these deaths are preventable. On Sunday, March 13th, 2011, a team of brave volunteers in Hong Kong cut their hair in solidarity with children. Locks of Love with Lots of Love will saw volunteers cut off 10-16 inches of their hair, and 1 volunteer shave his head while raising money for the Children’s Medical Foundation and raising hair for Locks of Love, a US based organization that creates wigs for children suffering from diseases that cause hair loss. Over 110,000HKD was raised for the Children’s Medical Foundation as well as over 60 inches of hair.
