As announced in September 2025, the installation of MERU equipment in Pingliang and Longnan marked the launch of newborn mobile transport services in Southern Gansu. These two operational hubs form the foundation of a regional neonatal emergency transport network.

Now, a further milestone is underway: Tianshui is scheduled to commence mobile transport services from April, completing the planned three‑hub system. When fully operational, the network will be linked through an established referral and transfer system connecting more than 9,000 healthcare institutions, enabling faster escalation of care for critically ill newborns across the region.

Early impact from operational sites:

  • Between September 2025 and March 2026:
    • 12 critically ill newborns safely transported by Longnan People’s Hospital
    • 33 critically ill newborns safely transported by Pingliang Maternal and Child Health Hospital

Each successful transfer represents timely, life‑saving intervention when every minute matters.
