Social Impact Fellowship

Prepares high school students to be socially responsible leaders with the skills and understanding needed to lead impactful personal and professional lives.

Initiated in 2018 as a four-week intensive summer program, Fellowship combines the best elements of enrichment, service learning, and internship to create an unparalleled learning experience for high school students interested in innovative solutions to important social issues.

The program brings together CMF nonprofit leadership, Yale University Dwight Hall’s model for student-led socially responsible investment (SRI), and the Hong Kong business community to give students hands-on experience and skills development in nonprofit leadership, investment management, and the field of medicine.

“We stepped into the real world, wore formal suits and gained the practical knowledge of nonprofits, finance, leadership and medicine. I’m so grateful that I could embark on this sophisticated and charitable journey with CMF.”

Yale University Collaboration

In 2018 CMF launch its first social enterprise the Social Impact Fellowship, a collaboration between CMF, Yale University’s Dwight Hall Socially Responsible Investment Fund (DHSRI) and the Hong Kong business community to create a unique program.

DHSRI is the first undergraduate-run fund to make sure of socially responsible investment (SRI) methods to create positive environmental and social impact while aiming to outperform standard investment benchmarks. The DHSRI Fund inspires the creation of student-led funds at universities making socially responsible investing both accessible and exciting.

Daniel Shen, former Yale Committee Advisor on Investor Responsibility and DHSRI Fund chairman, has been a key driver in the Social Impact Fellowship Committee since our first program in 2018.

“As a parent, I’m happy to see that my child is more confident with her abilities and move comfortable doing things out of er comfort zone. After her experience, she has been inspired to dream bigger and set new goals for the future. She has learnt many things that she would’ve never learnt if not for this program.”

Will you manage your money or will it manage you?

The Social Impact Fellowship 2021 designed to test assumptions about the power of your personal financial decisions. Delivered over two Saturday mornings, the program covered the essentials you need to build a budget, recognize competitive advantage and important market trends to inform socially responsible and impactful financial and donation decisions.

As in past years, the content is uniquely designed to convey college-level concepts with senior executives and Yale alumni as instructors. 2021 Fellows engaged with an EXTRAORDINARY line-up of speakers who donated their time and talent to make the learning both valuable and engaging!

Students were tested their knowledge and applied new concepts through a series of interactive group discussions:

  • You want your parents to increase your college living allowance – how do you convince them?
  • You just won the lottery – which industries or trends do you think would be good long-term investment winners
  • How can I use my $$ to influence environmental and social factors I value and ensure my investments and donations are impactful?
  • What factors will impact my ability to save $XX 10 years after graduating?
